Tale of an Expatriate #1
"The Turbulent Beginning"

This is a series of stories about various experiences and events that occurred during my 15 years of residence abroad.

I got engaged in the fall of 1985 and was to be married the following April, but immediately after our engagement, I received an assignment to work in New York in the same April, so I had no choice but to move my marriage up to February and leave for the United States at the end of March.

After only one month of the newly married life in Japan, I had to prepare for the overseas assignment and attend farewell parties every day, and the sudden change in our lives caused my wife a lot of hardship.

It was supposed to be a great time to be newlyweds in New York, but it was full of firsts, and I could not afford to balance family and work. My life as an expatriate in New York began with such turbulence.

From the next issue, I will tell you about my various experiences in New York. -S.M.-
