『When in Rome....but....』

In 2014, I was assigned to be a CEO in Lao, located in the poorest area, Sekong Prefecture.
There were totally 250 staffs working together with Japanese, Thai and Lao.

Lao staffs hired in the cities, could live in the dormitory provided by the company. They grew some crops for themselves in the clearing of dormitory.

One day, a Thai staff in charge of safety inspection, told me that there was hemp grown in the clearing. And then I rushed there but could not judge if it was hemp. Because, I had never seen it.

So I asked Lao staff “Is it hemp ?” and he answered with smile “Yes. This is so delicious”.

I was so confused that I once came back to the office to straighten out.

After this, I leaned the cultural gap.
